1- Determination of proximal SBP (systolic blood pressure)

Or the Doppler mode (more precise)

3- Calculate the ABI (ankle brachial index)
= ankle SBP/arm SBP or refer to the supplied chart



>> Clues and tricks:

- Without going through math, just keep in mind a 10% lower ankle SBP means PAOD
- A 10 mmHg difference between the two arms is not significant
- It is preferable to measure ABI on posterior or anterior tibial artery as in 8 to 9% of patients, dorsalis pedis pulse is scarcely found.

2- Determination of distal SBP (systolic blood pressure)


Position the cuff below the calf and apply the gel

Locate the Doppler signal and inflate/deflate the cuff
